FMD – FAQs

Q: What is FMD?
A: The Free Manga Downloader (FMD) is a free open source application written in Object-Pascal for managing and downloading manga from various online reading websites. For more information please read this page.

Q: How to install FMD?
A: FMD is a portable application so you don’t need to install. Just extract FMD 7z file to a new folder and run fmd.exe.

Q: I am getting “A referral was returned from the server” every time I try to open FMD.
A: You should try to perform the following tasks.

  • Run FMD with administrator privileges.
  • Turn off UAC (User Account Control).

Q: I am getting “List index (0) out of bounds” every time I try to open FMD.
A: That’s because FMD still have problem with unicode path. Please move FMD to another folder with non-unicode name.

Q: I am getting “List index (<A number>) out of bounds”.
A: It seems there is a corrupted manga list. You should try to redownload all lists by clicking the green button in the top left corner of the program and select “Download all manga lists from the server at once”.
If you can’t run the program because of this error, go to FMD folder -> Data folder, delete all files in there. Then open the program and redownload all manga lists.

Q: I often have trouble downloading from Batoto, like slow download speeds or wait for too long.
A: Many people have the same problem when downloading or updating from Batoto. I haven’t known the reason yet, but the bug might come from Synapse library, not from FMD. So sorry we have to live with it :(.
Note: This bug was fixed in version 0.6.2b.

Q: I cannot find this manga site in FMD.
A: Please go to Options > Manga sites to choose. If you still cannot find it, please post a request.

  1. Just grabbed a copy of this and it seems to work beautifully. With more and more chapters being released at online reader sites only, those of us who don’t like reading online were getting the short end of the stick. Having to download individual pages one by one was a real drag.

    Thanks for the excellent program!

  2. Is it possible to have an option not to show duplicate chapters (from different scanlators) on Batoto? some time is nice to be able to choose the specific version to download, but at times I’d like to just download every chapter regardless of the scanlator without the need to uncheck every duplicate chapters.
    Thanks
